Are We Powerless in Shadowland?

Across this country - memorials - 24 hour candles. But Washington, beholden to the powerful gun
lobby, refuses to budge on anything but possibly slight restrictions on the only player that hasn't the billions to protect itself - a small Texas manufacturer.
Just hours before Las Vegas, three were shot dead and two injured in Kansas. And in the 3 days following the shooting, almost 90 lives were lost to gun violence across the United States. Countless wounded others will never totally recover from gun violence.
But even Steve Scalise, congressman still recovering from June gun violence, is opposed to gun control. The gun lobby money keeps him and the rest of Congress in office indefinitely.
This is the conscience of this country's power structure:
At present a gerrymandering plea is unlikely to win in the Supreme Court, which is imbalanced in favor of rigid far right "ideals."
Powerless citizens create candle memorials of grief, vote for change and get more of the same and worse.
Jung's "shadow" continues to surface in the US as it does in a person who tries too long and hard to repress the truth of what he is.
