Earth Week: What We Watched But Couldn't Stop

Once we sat on the top of a waterfall, the falls rushing over our legs as we pondered how to stop climate change with more trees and alternative energy, redesigning buildings, and reducing cars and fossil fuel. Then Ronald Reagan removed the solar panels from the White House and Dick Cheney rallied for more SUV’s. While corporations pumped toxic fumes into the sky, citizens were told separating their garbage would make a difference. Many of us have watched the climate change drastically. Now in the U.S., the beautiful West Coast is constantly on fire while the East Coast and Great Lakes flood. For a moment at the beginning of the Obama administration, windmills suddenly appeared and the mainstream began to seriously consider other alternative energy. But not soon enough to stop what we saw happening while those around us kept insisting we were wrong.    (Reprint of my 2020 post)
