U.S. Illegal Drug Paradox

President Obama has commuted 1,176 sentences, many for drugs now legal (or soon to become legal) in many States.
For  years they have been confined for selling or carrying drugs that are now legal (or for lacking wealth to afford a lawyer to clear their sentences).*
Meanwhile, "legal" drugs increase arrests, as Congress signs yet another bill, mandating ever stricter pharmaceutical limits.
Increasingly, citizens now addicted to drugs that have been legal, are turning to street buying of  these "legal",as well as street, drugs.
As half of us lament losing Obama's thoughtful watch, we question the absence of humanitarian power in this country -- a country that seems nearly bereft of wise leaders -- yet overwhelmed by representatives oblivious to the real needs of their constituents, and obsessed with keeping their elected offices -- not with justice.

* (Many sold drugs because jobs are so few and salaries so low, it's difficult to survive for the millions of US poor. At present, over 40% of the US workforce has given up looking for work.)
