If you were watching a football game and one team arbitrarily used their advantage to change the rules without umpires, you'd be frustrated, irate. This is what the U.S. Senate has been doing. Mitch McConnell refused to consider Merrick Garland's nomination 8 months before the 2016 election. But now a week before the election, Amy Coney Barrett has been confirmed. An ethical line has been crossed. The U.S. Affordable Care Act can now be overturned and with it, protection for the many with pre-existing conditions. Amy Coney Barrett's writing, responses to Hearing questions, and background suggest that she is not the kind of thinker to replace Justice Ginsberg whose higher purpose was not political or dogmatically religious but ethical and humanitarian. We now have 3 new extremely right Justices of a Supreme Court which was intended to be apolitical and neutral: "the guardian and interpreter of the Constitution."
