Why Skyrocketing Costs and Missing SNAP Benefits

Trump's "Big Beautiful Bill" was designed to benefit the rich while leaving poorer Americans with less (CBO, August 2025). Trump's bill has begun decreasing 40% of U.S. household incomes and cutting Medicaid and SNAP. This is what the government shutdown is about. Democrats are trying to stop huge health insurance increases which Republicans are refusing to negotiate.
So Trump is retaliating by firing more federal workers and delaying and reducing SNAP benefits. "In 2026, South Carolina's wealthiest 1% - those making over $782,500/year - will receive an average tax cut of $68,260 while the lowest-income, earning under $23,000, will face over $30 tax increases, plus steep cuts to Medicaid and SNAP." (Stats from U of PA, Yale Budget Lab, The Institute of Taxation and Economic Policy.) In addition, the National debt will increase $3.4 million and cost $700 billion in additional interest payments on that debt.
