A teenage girl will remember the name and appearance of a boy who has attacked her, no matter how many boys she dates or how many college degrees and years have passed. I still remember one from high school who during a double date wouldn't stop grabbing, pinching, trying to push me down and bruisingly "kiss" me. His cruel, harsh energy, as much as my having to fight him off, was relentless. The memory never goes away. He was considered one of the "'cool' hunks." It wasn't until later that I heard of his whispered reputation: like Kavanaugh's.
As this kind of teenage boy becomes a man, this behavior doesn't disappear. We women know this. In Kavanaugh's case, it's evident in his rulings. Even as women who have gone out with many good men, as well as been platonic friends with many incredible men, we never forget the few others that mistreated us.
I've know enough judges to know that becoming a judge isn't necessarily about integrity.* Rumors about Kavanaugh's reputation at Yale alone are many. I know there are more women out there beyond Yale who have experienced his sexual disrespect. It's in the pattern: Past behavior predicts future.
