Try to Listen to Your Gut Instincts

In a violent world, it's always important to rethink first attractions. As Gavin de Becker* advises 'Listen to Instinct, fear and other survival signals.' These aren't always blatant signs of danger, but when you sense them, try not to ignore them.
Someone who seems to lose his temper twice in a half hour and yet preaches non-violence could be signaling Back Away. Think. All of us need some form of self-defense to prepare for unexpected violence.
"A date won't take 'no' for an answer. The new nanny gives a mother an uneasy feeling. A stranger...offers unsolicited help. The threat of violence surrounds us every day. But we can better protect ourselves, by learning to trust—and act on—our gut instincts."
