A
sweet guy gave me free coffee at the Public Market. He kindly gave me another free one when I spilled the cup I finally bought. He
was so easy-going that I couldn't help but ask where he got his
sweatshirt. “Rally House” he said.
“Then is it a joke?” I asked. Hank Aaron, Golf Pro was the front and back logo.
“Hank Aaron was a champion
baseball player” I said.
“No, golf” said the kid.
“Hall of Fame baseball” I
said. “My dad knew him.”
The
kid was so sweet, he just looked at me. “But it's a nice
sweatshirt” I said, “and maybe it really is a joke. See if any
baseball fan or older person notices.”
Hank
Aaron – long known for hitting more home runs than any other
baseball player in history. Muhammad Ali once called him “The
only person I idolize more than myself.”
Although
Hank Aaron wasn't known for golf, he did love it and joked: “It
took me 17 years to get 3,000 hits in baseball. It took one afternoon
on the golf course.”
The
thing is: history is often forgotten and mixed up as it merges into time. Maybe that's one reason we keep
making similar mistakes.
